Anna as well as her brother Willy Rawson were raised by their father, who had suffered the loss of her mother when she was at the age of four. When Anna was growing older, the dad (Jim Rawson) and her mother (Dianna Rawson) separated, putting Dianna to plunge into a downward spiral of depression that was extreme. Dianna went to an facility receiving the help she needed. But, she ended her own life when she was just 5 leaving Anna's family grieving and devastated. Anna was raised in an environment that was difficult. It was an uphill task that Anna had to go in a world without her mommy. A child shouldn't have to go through such a situation. Jim Rawson, who is her father, was a very important supporter and was someone she developed an intimate relationship with. Jim Rawson shared the same love of football as Anna, and both were former Glenelg players. Anna stated that after her mom died, the only reason why she decided to start golf was to have a closer relationship with her father and brother. She soon realized that it was a sport she actually enjoyed. Anna used golf as a way to cope with the grief she felt over her mother's death. This improved her skills as well as allowed her pastime, which was a passion at first, to grow into a profession. This is a dream. Rawson was educated at St. Martin Boarding School before completing her education by homeschooling. Anna admits that deciding which university to go to was more a matter of naivety than the logic. Anna was offered scholarships from prestigious colleges such as Yale and Harvard however she was eventually accepted by Immanuel College in Southern Australia due to the fact that the weather wasn't so harsh as the weather in New Zealand. Anna continued her education at University of Southern California and was honored with the All-Pac 10 on three occasions. Beauty and brains What a combination that is made for each other! She earned her bachelor's degree in communications at the University of Southern California and continued to study, eventually earning an MBA from Columbia Business School.
